Château Angélus, Tempo d’Angélus 2022

Château Angélus is one of Saint-Émilion’s most prestigious estates, family-owned by the de Boüard de Laforest lineage since 1909. Nestled in a natural amphitheatre beneath Saint-Émilion’s limestone slopes, the estate is known for its Merlot- and Cabernet Franc–dominant wines crafted with precision and care. It champions sustainable vineyard practices, gravity-fed winemaking, and careful ageing. Formerly Premier Grand Cru Classé (A), Angélus withdrew from the classification in 2022, choosing independence and focus over hierarchy. Glossy and refined, this Bordeaux blend (90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc) brims with ripe black cherry, cassis and a flicker of graphite and dried herb. Polished and medium-bodied, it’s buoyed by fine acidity and silky tannins that frame the fruit without weighing it down. A dusting of cocoa and cedar adds depth, while the mineral-tinged finish lingers with poise. Elegant, expressive and already drinking beautifully - modern Right Bank character with classic bones.
